Asher
She’s going to leave me.
That thought runs on a loop through my head, and I want to rip the house apart in my unmitigated rage. I should go back to John and Olivia and see how I can help, but losing time with her rips apart my chest worse than anything I can imagine. I want to do my duty, but I need her more than my next breath.
She’s going to leave me.
And I can’t remove myself from this hallway. Even when Aidan comes in behind me, I don’t move my eyes from the door separating me from the only woman I could ever want.
“John wants you to get back to the house, Ash,” Aidan says gently from behind me, and I close my eyes to the battle waging in my head, and rest my forehead on her door.
She’s going to leave me. One way or another. She’s going to leave.
“I’ll make sure she stays here, but you have to go,” he says, and it takes a moment to realize I spoke my thoughts aloud. When I finally open my eyes and look at the man I’ve called a friend for so many years, he winces at the look in my eyes.
“I swear it, Ash,” he promises, and I believe he’ll try, but nothing and no one can hold Mena if she doesn’t want to be held.
I can only nod.
“John needs you, Ash.”
I stare at the door a moment longer before traveling to my King, dreading every moment I’m away from Mena. It only takes a few seconds, but it kills me, and I can’t believe John has been away from Olivia for even a minute without losing his fucking mind. How can he stand this? This clawing, gouging ache. It rips at my chest, and I have to focus all my energy on not traveling back to her. I knock on the chamber door, and I cannot fathom what I can do to help when I feel so torn in two.

Mena
He’s not going to explain a freaking thing to me, I think as his mouth settles into a firm line. Asher’s eyes appear half pissed off and half sad. He looks like he’s struggling with something, but he’s not saying anything. I haven’t spent that much time with Asher, but I can tell getting words out of him will take some engine grease and possibly a crowbar.
I think I’d rather skip the part where he has to let me down slow.
“Okay. We’ll talk about it later,” I concede with a shrug and shake of my head.
In the grand scheme of things, I have a pretty good idea of what he’ll say. I mean, honestly? Who would pick a girl like me? I’m not sure how this whole Wraith mating stuff goes, but if the man has a choice, he has to prefer a better crop than me.
I don’t need to be worrying about this now anyway. So what if I felt a connection to the first man probably ever? So what if I clung to him like a monkey on a tree? So what if I feel safe with him, a feeling I haven’t had in a very long time? So freaking what? I don’t deserve a man like him. After the lives I’ve taken… happiness just isn’t in the cards for me.
“I’m all right. It’s not going to hurt. I didn’t even notice it was dislocated before now. It’ll get popped back in, I’ll be able to heal and walk. Win-win. You can go. I’ll be fine,” I tell him, my voice sounding almost dead even to my ears. I need to cut this off as soon as possible. His face tells me he is reluctant, but he needs to go.
“Come on Asher,” Evan says at his elbow, and she escorts him from the room, practically dragging him behind her up the stairs.
My eyes are on the stairs long after he disappears from my sight. In those moments, I take the time to shore up my heart. I don’t need to rely on Asher. I shouldn’t even rely on Aurelia or Rhys or prey on the hospitality of the Wraiths.

I should do the right thing. For once, I should do what I’ve always needed to do. But I need to be able to walk to do it.

Kill or Die
Nina Hardwick has had a rough life since leaving high school, but inside she is still the girl looking for a silver lining. The past several years have left their toll on her psyche, and just as she feels like she’s climbing out of a deep abyss, her life and the lives of millions of others fall into shambles as a virus overtakes the country and leaves a plague of undead armies scouring the land.

In a desperate attempt to get away from the infected, Nina and some neighbors speed out of town, nearly killing a man on a motorcycle. When they stop to rescue him, Nina realizes that he is the one man from her past she never got over, the guy who should have been her high school sweetheart until she messed it up. But this unrequited love, Kevin Savage, says he doesn’t even remember her. Or does he?

Nina, Kevin, and her neighbors head to the wilderness and fight to survive not only the plague but also hunger, cold, their inner demons…and even each other. Will they survive and, more importantly, will her heart?

Excerpt

I lay in Kevin’s arms for longer than I could calculate, staring out the window and watching as the sky grew darker. Part of me wished we could stay like this forever, in this place the world seemed to have forgotten about, away from everything bad and horrible and dark.

That might have been nice, but there was still the question of my kids…and the rest of my family. I needed to know they were all right, had to find out where they were. I didn’t know how the hell I was going to do that or when, but I needed to.

Up against my body, he felt strong where I felt weak, warm where I could only sense cold. He had become to me everything I always knew he was, and the realization that I had fallen in love with him again struck me hard. It had been an easy slide, one I hadn’t even known I was on until my feet were back on the ground.

I decided there, in his arms, that I wasn’t going to fight it.

But I also wasn’t going to acknowledge it. After our weird past as teens, I didn’t know what to expect from him in the aftermath. I only knew this moment, and I was going to cherish it, hold it tightly in my heart like I might clench a locket in my fist, and then I was going to let tomorrow bring what it would. I would leave this room with no expectations, no hope.

It was something I’d grown pretty good at over the years.

As if he could read my mind, he said, “We should probably head back.”

“Yeah, I was thinking that. I think a storm’s moving in, don’t you?” I turned around in his arms. Part of me didn’t want to. I was sad—profoundly—but felt like I shouldn’t be drowning in that emotion. I didn’t want to give away anything in my head.

His voice was soft when he said, “Yeah, I think so, so we shouldn’t screw around.”

I smiled in spite of myself. “A little late.”

He grinned too, and I imagined that he was feeling inside the same way I was but also wanted to try to put on a happy face. But he pulled me close and kissed me tenderly. He didn’t say anything, though, even after his lips left mine.

I wanted to acknowledge the significance of his earlier revelation, even though part of me was afraid to go there, so afraid of what the truth was. But I had to know. “Do you really remember me…or were you just saying that?”

The Lilith Scroll by BL Marsh

Character Spotlight: Abbaddon

Teaser

EXCERPT

Abbaddon waved his palm over the stones.
“Ostende te ad me!” His voice commanded.
The stones seemed to resist his command, shaking as if they would break apart in any moment. Slowly but surely, the stones began to glow in the ancient script of the heavens. Line upon line scrolling around the stone in an intricate knot pattern spoke of what Adra said. The author of the carvings indeed told of a creation of beings called the Annakim. Creatures of the most elegant beauty and purity who were cursed to crave the lives of Others, but were not allowed to touch or be touched by any person or being without dying themselves. Each one was bound to live eternally, but could only marry another race. It was the very definition of a conudruum. How were they to marry if they could touch anyone? How were they to satisfy their hunger if they could touch life without agony?
“These are not my words. I am not this cruel. You must believe me, Adra. I would never curse a race in this manner.” Adra had walked away while he was reading the stones. She didn’t want to see the look on his face if it was true.
“Have you read them all?” She whispered.
He turned back to the stone on the right. The one with the giant orb of the stars upon it. His breath caught as he read, what he already suspected to be true.
And the Annakim will be damned until the Destroyer wakes and fulfills his purpose of eradicating them. For he made them out of haste and will remove them to bring balance to the universe.
“NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” He cried out to the heavens.
“Every action has a consequence. You stole that which was not yours. You created this flawed world, and me and my people. I was destined to save you, so that you may kill me. You have only had a few moments to prepare for this. I have had my entire life and so have my people. But I beg you. Please be swift. Do not drag out our suffering. We have suffered enough. Not all of us are immortal.” Adra spoke elegantly, letting the tears silently stream down her cheek.
“There has to be another way. I did not decree this. I would never do this to you! I will not kill you!” Abbaddon was panicking. The thunder was growing closer. As the first rain drops fell he knew what must be done. Never had it been attempted before. No one had written or prophesied about the Destroyer giving up his life for another. Why would he destroy himself? He didn’t think it could even be done, but he would do anything for the woman standing before him. She was his redemption.

Red by Jacqueline Noir

 Author: Jacqueline Noir
 Series: VonRouge Book #1
 Expected Release Date: January 2015

Synopsis

The first time those gray eyes pinned her, they’d stared at her from the face of a creature that was supposed to only be a legend. A cliche.
The. Big. Bad. Black. Wolf.
A wolf that had changed into a man.
But it had all be a hallucination. Hadn’t it?
When Sadie VonRouge moves to Casterton, Oregon to live with her Grams, she expected a sleepy little town; the perfect backdrop for her to start piecing back together her life. She wants nothing more than a normal start to her freshman year of college.
Normal was the last thing she was going to get.
The night she was attacked, it’d been a wolf that chased her down. A wolf that tackled her to the ground. A wolf that began sniffing her.
Then she’d opened her eyes, and she’d come face-to-face with him.
But she was delusional. She knew this. After all, she had a nice, fresh wolf bite on her neck to prove it.
There’d been no man.
At least, that’s what she tells herself over and over, even while fighting back the memory of how sinfully gorgeous he’d been, or how viciously he’d growled out that one word:
Mine.
Sadie doesn’t know what the hell is happening to her, or why she’s beginning to exhibit odd symptoms after the attack. All she knows is that her world has been drastically changed.
She has no idea how much, or how serious that man’s claim was. Not until he comes back into her life, demanding the one thing that he owns above anything else.
Her.
Thrust into a new world, Sadie is going to be forced to deal with a reality she never expected.
And a dominating, scary, dangerous male that might just not give her any choice but to accept her new life . . . and the fact that he comes along with it.
When everything isn’t always black and white, it’s a little Red.
