Bastard by J.L. Perry

Title: Bastard
Author: J.L. Perry
Publisher: Hachette
Genre: YA/NA
 Release Date: September 14, 2015

My name is Carter Reynolds. I was born a bastard and I’ll die a bastard. I learnt it at a young age, and nothing and nobody can change that. I’m on a one-way path of destruction, and god help anyone who gets in my way. I hate my life. Actually, I hate pretty much everything. That’s until I meet the kid next door. Indi-freakin’-ana. My dislike for her is instant. From the moment I lay eyes on her, she ignites something within me. She makes me feel things I thought I was incapable of feeling. I don’t like it, not one bit. When she looks at me with her big, beautiful, haunting, green eyes, it’s like she can see into the depths of my soul. It freaks me the hell out. She’s like sunshine and rainbows in my world of gloom and doom. I hate sunshine and rainbows.

I’m Indiana Montgomery, my friends call me Indi. Despite losing my mum at the age of six, I have a wonderful life and great friends. My dad more than makes up for the fact that I only have one parent. I’m his little girl, the centre of his world. I adore him.

When Carter Reynolds moves in next door, my life takes a turn for the worse. He’s gorgeous—sinfully hot, but that’s where my compliments end. He seems hell bent on making my life miserable. He acts tough, but when I look into his eyes I don’t see it. I see hurt and pain. To me, he seems lost.

I should hate him for the way he treats me, but surprisingly I don’t. If anything, I feel sorry for him. I want to help him find peace. Help him find the light that I know is buried somewhere within his darkness, but, he won’t have a bar of it.

He’s warned me time and time again to stay away, but I can’t. I’m drawn to him for some reason. He’s always referring to himself as a bastard. That may be true, but to me, he’s more like a beautifully, misunderstood bastard. Whether he likes it or not, I refuse to give up on him.

Leaning forward, so my face is only inches from hers, I say, “I can see that.” Her pupils dilate and I hear her breath hitch. I immediately know my effect on her hasn’t diminished either. It takes everything in me not to pull her into my arms and squeeze the fucking life out of her. Why did I leave it so long to see her? Just being near her again, makes me feel alive. “It’s good to see you again, Indi.”
“Well, the feeling’s not mutual,” she says. She’s lying, I can tell. Her body language is saying the complete opposite to her words. She’s still a stubborn arse I see. My eyes leave hers, gazing down at her lips. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dreamt of those lips over the past five years. Too many to count. I want to kiss her so bad my fucking chest aches. I let my eyes drop a little lower. First I see is the necklace I bought her. I can’t believe she’s still wearing it. It has me smiling like a damn fool. You have no idea what seeing that means to me.
I watch her chest rise and fall as her breathing quickens. She can deny it all she wants, but she’s affected by me. “My eyes are up here, buddy,” she spits. I want to laugh at her comment. I love her smart mouth. I’m glad this part of our relationship hasn’t changed.
Underneath the material of her white top, I can see a hint of her white lace bra covering the swell of her breast. It gives me an idea. I can’t help myself. I lift the sponge in my hand until it’s hovering over her tits. I hear her gasp when she realises what I’m about to do. I clench my fist tight, the water drips out. It soaks into the fabric of her top, making it transparent. Her nipples harden and so does my cock. Christ. I haven’t even touched her yet, and I swear I could break diamonds with this fucker.
Peeling my gaze from her spectacular rack, I make eye contact with her again. I’m feeling quite pleased with myself, but that feeling doesn’t last long. The anger I see in her eyes is not what I’m expecting. When did she lose her sense of humour? I guess I should’ve known from past experience, when it comes to her, I’m playing with fire. Especially since she has five years of pent up anger inside her, towards me.
This is one time I’m not anticipating her next move. So when it comes, I’m totally taken by surprise. She raises her right leg slightly, and then ‘BOOM’. She knees me fair smack in the nuts. Hard. Jesus fucking Christ.
All the air gushes from my lungs as pain radiates through my whole body. My dick goes instantly limp. Fuck, I think she just killed it. I’m pretty sure my boys are now lodged somewhere in my throat.
A feral, high pitched sound escapes me as I fall to my knees in agony. “Stay the fuck away from me arsehole,” she spits, as she turns and runs inside.
Somebody call an ambulance, I think I’m gonna die.

He knelt in front of me. While brushing my tears away with his thumb he said, “Baby, please don’t cry. This was another reason I didn’t want you involved because I don’t want you upset. Shh. Please, I don’t like seeing you like this.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m scared for you. Will you please talk to my dad?” He stared at me a good long minute with his hands still on either side of my face.
“Mil, I don’t want your dad involved either. He already doesn’t think I’m good enough for you. I think it’s just best if I handle this on my own.” I was seeing red at his words. We were perfect for each other. The only problem we ever had was him trying to handle things on his own and not letting me help.
“You know what? You’re selfish!” I was livid. “I love you, and I’m worried sick over this, and your answer is once again, to just let you handle this on your own?”
“I’ve told you about it, so I’m not keeping it from you. I’m asking you to trust me.”
“Don’t patronize me, Cash. I do trust you, I don’t trust them. I’m supposed to, what? Walk around and act like everything is okay, especially now that I know they know where you are.” I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand.
He hung his head. “All right, I can’t stand this anymore. I don’t want to hurt you, so let’s just get through homecoming, and I’ll talk to your dad, okay? I want to concentrate on you and me tonight. I have a surprise for you, and I don’t want to ruin it with all of this crap from my past.” I felt relieved by his words. At least he was listening to reason.
“Okay, I can deal with that.” He brought both of us to our feet and hugged me close.
“Millie, I love you more than anything in the world. I never want to see you as sad as I just did. I don’t want to hurt you.”
“I don’t want to hurt you, either.” I smiled up at him so he wouldn’t feel so bad. “Now go get in the shower and get dressed so we can go to the dance because I want my surprise. You know how impatient I am.” I smacked his bottom.
“That’s not a very nice thing to do to me as I’m heading for a shower. Now I’ll have to take a cold one.” He grinned, showing me his dimples. He knew his dirty thoughts would annoy me.
“Is that all you think about?” He raised one brow and started to reply, but I quickly covered his mouth with my hand. “Never mind. I already know the answer to that. Just go.”
Just before he walked into the bathroom, he called my name. “I don’t think I got to tell you how incredible you look tonight. I was speechless when I first saw you.”
I blushed. Standing in his small hallway, I’d never felt more special. “Thank you. Now hurry up. Wait… will you at least give me a hint about my surprise?”
“Come here.”
Just as I made it over to him, he wrapped his arms around me and picked me up. I was eye-level with him now that my feet were off the ground. I fondled his hair just above his collar as he nibbled on my ear. He soon kissed down my neck only stopping just above my collarbone.
“Well?” I asked curiously, “Are you going to give me a hint or not?”
“No. I just wanted to make out with you for a minute because I knew you wouldn’t let me do it at the dance.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “You little sneak. Maybe since you got your chance here, I’ll just have to hold out on our make out sessions for a while.”
“You couldn’t do it, sweetheart. I can’t blame you, though, it’d be tough.”
“Do I feel a wager coming on here?” I asked, knowing I would win.
“It ain’t that serious,” he said, nonchalantly.
“Oh, I think it is. I need an ego boost, and I think winning a bet would do wonders, don’t you?” I was still stranded mid-air, chest to chest with him.
He kissed my lips softly. “I don’t think so, and you’re right. I wouldn’t last a day.”
“I guess as long as we both know who would win, I can live with it.” I squeezed him tight and patted his back. “All right, chop, chop! I’m ready for my surprise.”
He chuckled, setting me back on the ground. “Maybe I’ll have to start having more surprises for you. I like watching you squirm.”
Author Carrie Thomas is to our teenage daughters as what Judy Blume was to me…to us really. Judy Blume in some aspects was that mother, that sister and THAT friend that I could turn to when life just seemed too complicated.  If you have a teenage daughter or a sister who is in high school (junior high even), this is the book that she needs to read.
As a parent, I wish that this book was out when my girls were teenagers. I not only would have bought them a copy but I would have bought all their friends a copy…..but honestly, it’s not just for teenage girls. It’s for you as well.

Seth (Damage Control 3) by Jo Raven

SETH (Damage Control 3)
by Jo Raven
Life is a bitch. Keeps screwing me over, and I take blow after blow, sucking it up, giving her the finger.
Don’t get me wrong: I love women. Especially one woman – Madeline. She’s gorgeous, she’s sexy, she’s goddamn perfect.
Plus – minor detail – she has a boyfriend already.
Not that she’d want anything to do with the likes of me. Apprentice tattoo artist, former homeless person, covered in ink, without a penny to my name.
And sort of cursed. I mean, I’d be lucky to run into a girl, any girl, on my way in and out of hospitals with the way life has been knocking me about lately.
But I’m not lucky. Never was. Doesn’t look like that’s gonna change any day soon, either.
Until the day the girl of my dreams literally runs into me. With her car.
Life hates me, and if this isn’t a clue, then I don’t know what is.
Standalone novel. No cliffhanger.
*Warning: this book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Mature readers only. Not intended for young readers.*
SETH is book 3 in the series Damage Control – a series set in the same world as Inked Brotherhood. The boys of Damage Control were taken in by Zane Madden and Rafe Vestri and offered apprenticeship and work in the tattoo shop Damage Control.
Next in the Damage Control series: SHANE(Damage Control 4).
The moment he’s out of the room, I bury my face in my hands. Stupid to feel so down because Fred wouldn’t kiss me, but it has been a sucky week. I’ve a right to feel low, right? I feel… confused. Sad.
I don’t want to leave. Hard to deny my heart beats faster every time I’m near Seth.
Why do I like how strong he is, so much stronger than Fred? I shouldn’t be comparing them. Shouldn’t be thinking that Fred’s shoulders suddenly seem too narrow, his jaw too slender, that he seems too soft compared to the toughness radiating off Seth.
I shouldn’t wonder how Seth kisses, if sweet and slow, or hard and demanding. If he’d have kissed me, pushed me against the wall and held me there, pressed his body to mine if he’d been the one with me at the party.
Doesn’t matter. He wasn’t.
He’s not the one I want. I’m not picturing him in the shower, naked and—
No, I’m not.
Clenching my hands, I get up. I want Fred. I like the fact he’s slender and sweet, that I’m not afraid of him overpowering me, taking me against my will. That he’s so sensitive and careful. The confusion will clear when I’m out of here, far from Seth.
Can’t see my purse. I turn in a circle and spot it on the floor under the low table. I squat down to grab it and notice a crumbled piece of paper. I lift it, straighten it out on the table for Seth to find later.
It’s a photo, and the sight of it stops me as I prepare to stand up and go. The ink has faded to brown and yellow. It’s old and spent a long time folded, the creases so deep they’re about to tear open.
It’s the photo of two women and two boys. The women look like sisters, light-skinned and fair, and the boys look like brothers—dark hair and dark, exotic eyes. I’m pretty sure I know who they are. I smooth my fingertip over a small, smiling face, over familiar broad cheekbones and thick-lashed eyes.
A mother he’d thought dead for—how long? I wonder. How long was she missing? And what happened to him while she was gone? It’s hard to smooth out the wrinkles in the paper. The anger that made him crumble up something he’d obviously kept for a long time, a kind of talisman, a memory, makes my eyes sting.
Before I know it, I’m on my feet and looking for him. Can’t hear the shower running yet. I step into a tiny hallway. The bathroom door is open and I halt before he sees me, my breath hitching.
He’s standing at the sink, a hand on his chest between his hard pecs, head bowed, dark hair hiding his eyes. But God, his back… Broad and muscular, covered in intricate ink—snakes, feathers, ladders, claws, demons—and matching ink on his chest, reflected in the mirror, spreading down his pecs, stretching over his padded shoulders.
A snake, mouth open, fangs dripping. I know this tattoo. It’s the photo I saw hanging inside Damage Control.
He’s so frigging hot my body ignites, my blood burns, thumping heavily in the base of my throat, deep inside my belly, between my legs.
Jesus. This can’t be happening. I should go.
He lifts his head and our gazes meet in the mirror. I’m caught, unable to move, helplessly looking on as his eyes darken to black. His hand, still pressed against his chest, curls into a tight fist. His mouth is beautiful, wide and full, his jaw dark with stubble. I want to touch it, run my fingers against it, let it scrape my skin.
He turns around before I run and this close up, with his chest bared, his ink revealed, I’m rapidly forgetting my reasons for needing to go. His beauty hits me full-force—extraordinary, fierce, striking.
Crap, crap, crap.

Strong hands close on my hips from behind and I immediately recognize Z’s touch, his smell envelops me as he pulls closer. The hard muscles of his thighs alleviate the pressure on my legs as his forearms close around my middle, holding me up, pressing me into him. His chin dips down, nestling in the curve of my neck. He presses a soft kiss to the top of my shoulder.
“Nessa,” he whispers, closing the space between our mouths. He stops an inch from my lips. “I’m going to kiss you now.”
I nod, barely, before his lips gently press over mine. Z kisses me slowly, sweetly, reverently. He pulls back slightly and looks into my eyes, shaking his head imperceptibly. His hands work their way up my shirt, gripping the sides of my ribcage and he jerks me closer, slanting his head; his mouth crashes over mine, and I’m pulled under like a riptide.

Facebook cover to add to thingie

By Elodie Nowodazkij

She’s his best friend’s little sister. He’s the biggest player of them all.
They shouldn’t be together. But this summer’s just too tempting.

Sixteen-year-old Emilia Moretti’s goal for the summer is simple: forget her brother’s best friend—Nick Grawsky—ever existed. It should be easy: He’s spending his summer in the Hamptons, adding girls in tiny bikinis to his list of broken hearts. Guarantee he won’t be telling them they’re like his little sisters. This summer, Emilia won’t stay awake at night thinking about him. She’ll need flawless ballet movements to have a shot at next year’s showcase, and she’s finally ready to search for her birth parents. But when Nick decides to stay in the city, Emilia’s resolve disappears in a pirouette. Maybe it’s the spin they needed to be together. As long as she doesn’t get stuck believing in happily ever after…

Nick is tired of pretending to be the happy, let’s-have-fun guy. His father wants him to change his career from professional dancer to…lawyer. He needs to put all of his focus on dancing to prove to Daddy Dearest he’s good enough to make it big. And he may have a case of the bluest balls in history courtesy of Emilia. She’s off-limits: The bro code with Roberto even forbids the dirty thoughts he has about her. Besides, he’s not boyfriend material. He only has time for flings, for girls who don’t expect much, for girls he doesn’t want to kiss goodnight. He knows he should resist her, but he’s not sure he wants to…

At least for this summer.

It’s going to be a summer like no other.

Naked Athlete

I’m staring at Rafe’s hand. Big, strong, callused. A scar runs from his thumb to the index finger.
He’s looking at me, waiting.
So I lift my hand, place it in his. It fits on his palm, smaller, darker, thinner. He seems as entranced by the contrast as I am. His fingers curl, closing around mine. His lips part, but no sound comes from his mouth, and his gaze remains fixed on our entwined hands, pale lashes hiding the gold of his eyes.
Now I’m the one caught, transfixed. His mouth looks soft, vulnerable, at odds with his strong, angular features and the broad set of his shoulders. The need to touch his face is overwhelming, and I step closer, so close I can sense his scent. Not a cologne, but the deep scent of his skin, like musk and warm metal. I can see the rise and fall of his chest underneath the black Deathmoth T-shirt he’s wearing under his open jacket, see the outline of his strong pecs.
We’re standing so close our breaths mingle, and our bodies touch in places as we shift, feathery brushes that send fire across my skin, into my belly, making me ache. He places his hands on my waist and I grip his thick, sinewy forearms. My stomach drops as if I’m standing at the edge of a precipice, on the edge of a moment that can change everything.
What’s happening? It’s as if in the hollow darkness, the barrier between us is crumbling, the wall he’s set between himself and the world is falling.
His hands tighten on my hipbones and his lashes lift, his gaze moving to my mouth. His breathing is ragged. He tugs me against him, his fingertips digging painfully into my flesh, his arms flexing with barely controlled strength.
His arousal presses into my stomach, hot and thick, caught sideways in his jeans.
My mind fills up with static. Rafe wants me. There’s the solid proof of his desire. The heated gaze I’ve felt so often on me is translated into a physical reaction, and it makes me feel so hot I might burst into flames. He’s so handsome, I can’t help myself. I want to stroke his square jaw, drag my fingertips over the golden stubble on his cheeks, kiss those damnable dimples.
